Brief Overview of Project:
This striking 2 block, 702 bed development is the first step in the rejuvenation of the Partick waterfront. It addresses the city’s growing demand for high density student living space, but it also creates a much needed quality external community space.
With towering facing brick facades Lesterose were charged with the delivery of the majority of the scheme’s envelope. This included an extensive masonry support system and traditionally built brickwork features. The important external space was complimented by brick and stone walling.
This package presented a number of challenges for all involved, in particular the project’s reliance on traditional building techniques. From the radius feature work with alternating courses of recessed headers at basement level to the underslung hanging lintels on all gable windows the attention to detail was crucial. Through an excellent team of skilled tradesman and hands-on management Lesterose ensured that quality of workmanship was maintained throughout the 25m high build.
The site itself was not without logistical complications however, in collaborating with the main contractor and sequencing areas accordingly we were able play our part in a timely handover meeting the deadline for the 2015 student intake.
